I already have a laser jammer. Can I turn it into a Cheetah M27 Rider?

Not exactly, but you can get very close. All of Cheetah’s accessory products are modular so you can purchase the components you need to upgrade your existing laser jammer. Cheetah Interfaces are available for the Blinder M27 / M47 series, Blinder M25 / M45 series, Blinder M20 / M40 series, Laser Pro Park, Laser Interceptor *, AntiLaser AL G8, AntiLaser AL G9, Laser Star and Cincinnati Microwave ZR4 (Beltronics and Escort’s laser jammer). We also still have some kits available on request for older jammer systems like the Lidatek LE30, Target LT400 or the Laser Defender.

Please see the VizAlert LASER product page for more details.

The M27 Rider is based on the Blinder M27 Xtreme so can it be updated for future guns like the Blinder?

Yes and no. You can’t update the jammer yourself because the components are in a sealed waterproof box and opening this box will void your warranty. Do not attempt this at home. To keep your jammer up-to-date with the lastest guns, Cheetah offers a free factory upgrade service. Simply return the grey wireless control box to Cheetah, we will be glad to upgrade your jammer for new guns, as and when they are released. You do not need to return the jammer heads or any other part of the system. Just the control box.

Contact Cheetah for further information on this service.

Will I be able to switch the jammer off when I want to?

Yes. The default setting of the system is “power on” so it automatically starts up when you start your engine. The Cheetah M27 Rider is supplied with a waterproof handlebar kill switch that allows you to switch the jammer off when you reach the speed that you want the laser gun to be able to record. You turn the jammer back on with the handlebar switch whenever you want to.

What’s the best way to use the M27 Rider so as not to arouse any suspicion that I’m jamming police laser?

The M27 Rider will jam police laser for as long as you let it. It does not produce Jam Codes on the laser gun that would alert an officer to it’s use. It replicates the normal error codes that the officer would see all the time. However, the sensible way to use this product is to slow down when you receive the alert and switch OFF the jammer. Jamming stops immediately when the power is gone and your speed can then be instantly acquired. Once the laser gun records a satisfactory speed reading, the officer will move on to target the next vehicle.

Are Laser Jammers legal?

Laser jammers are legal to use in 40 US states. They are illegal in California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia and Washington DC. Most European countries ban the use of laser jamming devices. If you drive into a state where the use of laser jammers is illegal, we recommend you make use of the OFF switch.

What alerts will I see on the VizAlert V2 display?

The Cheetah VizAlert V2 display will alert you with a discreet flashing LED display.
  • Laser jammer alert = Red LED flashing rapidly
  • Power ON = All 6 LEDs flash once.
  • Power OFF = All 6 LEDs flash twice.
  • Wireless link established = All 6 LEDs flash in sequence
  • No wireless link = Yellow and Orange LEDs will flash alternately 6 times, every 30 seconds, until the wireless connection is re-established.
  • Low battery = Green, Blue then Orange LEDs flash in sequence. You should replace the batteries soon.
  • The other colors are used for radar detector alerts.

Jammer start-up tones and Jammer reset tones are always filtered out. You wouldn’t want a full scale alert every time your jammer powers up or resets, so the Cheetah M27 Rider deliberately ignores the tones that your jammer’s original buzzer would have normally produced at start up, and also the tones produced by the jammer when it resets.

What is the LED on the Cheetah connector cable for?

This is a test status LED to confirm what the laser jammer is doing; receiving power, firing, etc. It operates in exactly the same way as the LED on the original wiring loom supplied by Blinder for the M27 Xtreme would operate. The LED should flash on red when powered on (and during an alert) then go green to indicate normal status. We recommend running this LED to your instrument cluster and installing wherever possible.

I have installed my system but the status LED is not lighting up.

Start up your engine and check again. The jammer assembly will only power up when you start your bike’s engine.

If the status LED does not light up after you start the engine, please check all cables are connected joined together to ensure that the POWERnode is powering up your jammer system.

The jammer alert is going off all the time. What’s wrong?

The Cheetah part of the system will only transmit an alert when the original Blinder part is giving out an alert. The Cheetah equipment is trying to tell you that there is something wrong with your laser jammer system. Check all cable connections in the Cheetah equipment, then check the laser jammer heads for a bad connection.
