How to update your C100 with the USB download cable.

Download the full C100 user manual by clicking here.

Important notes for first time users.

The C100 is updated using our GPS Updater software which runs on your internet connected PC.

The GPS Updater Software is compatible with Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP and Vista operating systems running Microsoft .Net 1.1. More details are shown at the bottom of this page.

Apple Macs are not currently supported, but if you are running Windows XP or Vista on your Mac, then you can use the above software.

If you've lost the supplied CD click here to download the zipped folder containing the required software. Then click save and choose the folder where you want to save this zipped folder. We recommend you use an easy-to-find folder on your PC, e.g. "My Documents."

When the download finishes, navigate to where you saved the file and unzip the contents. You will see a folder called Cheetah C100 CD.

Check back here periodically for updated software. The current version of our GPS Updater software is called GPS0102.exe.

Step 1: INSTALL THE USB DRIVER BEFORE CONNECTING THE C100 TO YOUR PC.

The zipped folder contains a USB driver for the C100.

On your PC, navigate to the Cheetah C100 CD folder, then to USB Drivers and select your operating system. Double click the file and follow the on screen instructions to install the necessary USB driver. If you have connected your C100 to your computer before installing the USB driver, you should unplug the C100 and restart your computer.

Step 2: Make sure your PC is connected to the internet.

Step 3: Connect the C100 to your PC using the supplied cable.

If you have lost your download cable, you can use any standard USB to mini-USB cable. These are commonly supplied with mobile phones.

The display on the C100 will show "1" to signify that it is ready to proceed with the GPS0102.exe update software.

Step 4: Go to the Cheetah C100 CD folder on your computer.

Double click the software file GPS0102.exe to start the update programme.

Step 5: Click "Find GPS."

This starts an AUTO search to allow the GPS0102.exe update software to find which "COM port" the C100 is connected to. You can select the correct COM port from the drop down list if you know it already.

If the GPS0102.exe software exhibits any errors when searching, you can easily identify which is the correct COM port to select. On your PC, click Start > Control Panel > System. Tip: If you can't see System, switch to Classic View. Then select the Hardware tab and click Device Manager. Expand the Ports details and you can read the connected COM port from here. It should read something like "Prolific USB to Serial Comm Port (COM X)" where COM X is the correct COM port to select in the GPS0102.exe update software.

The AUTO search will look for the C100 between COM ports 1 and 9. If the result is "No GPS found" please unplug the USB cable from your computer and try another USB socket. If you still cannot get a COM port in the range 1 to 9, please follow these brief instructions:

Go into Control Panel, System, Hardware, then Device Manager.Locate and expand the Ports section. Right-click on the port labelled something like "Prolific USB to Serial Comm Port (COM X)" and choose Properties. On the Port Settings tab choose Advanced. In the lower lefthand section is a drop down box where you can change the com port number assignment. Change this to a number between 1 and 9. Choose OK to go back to the desktop, and the device should now be at that location.

When the C100 is successfully connected to your PC, the model number and current database version will be displayed on the right hand side of the software window. The C100 display will also show the number 2.

The GPS Update software obviously needs to access our central database over the internet to download the most recent database onto your C100. If your firewall software asks permission for the GPS Update software to access the internet, you should click "Yes", or "Permit Always". If you don't allow the C100 to access to the central database it can't get any new camera locations.

Step 6: Choose the regional database you want to download.

Use the drop down menu to select USA, GB, Europe, Australia, etc.

Step 7: Finally, click "Start Update."

A confirmation box will appear and you should click yes to confirm that you want to replace the old database with the new database.

You can see the current stage of the update by viewing the progress bars on the software screen.

When the update has finished successfully, the software screen will say "Update completed" and the C100 display will read "Good".

Step 8: Unplug the download cable from the C100.

The Update software was developed using the Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1, which means that you have to have this standard Microsoft software on your computer to run our application. Most PC's have this installed as standard.

You can easily check to see if you already have the .NET Framework 1.1 installed right now by clicking Start on your Windows desktop, selecting Control Panel, and then double-clicking the Add or Remove Programs icon. When that window appears, scroll through the list of applications. If you see Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 listed, the latest version is already installed and you do not need to install it again.

If you can't see it listed, you must instal it - it is a free download from Microsoft. For more information on Microsoft .NET 1.1 click here to visit Microsoft's website. Microsoft recommend that you download .NET 1.1 using Microsoft Windows Update.
